Matthew Schechter is an experienced trial lawyer who uses the experience gained from his time as a prosecutor to effectively advocate for his clients both in and out of the courtroom and at all stages of litigation. Schechter has a varied civil litigation practice with a particular emphasis in employment law.

Schechter also brings extensive appellate experience with the Appeals Bureau in the Queens County District Attorney's Office to the firm's appellate law practice. He handles appeals and writs involving a broad range of issues at both the state and federal level.

REPRESENTATIVE EXPERIENCE

  • Schechter has extensive courtroom experience from his five years spent in the Queens County District Attorney’s Office, having tried ten cases to verdict. Schechter also has made many oral arguments before the Appellate Division- Second Department in New York.
  • In 2003, Schechter helped try a federal employment discrimination case, which resulted in a favorable jury verdict on behalf of a university employee. In 2004 and 2005, he wrote appellate briefs in two different appeals before the California Court of Appeal, each of which resulted in the reversal of the trial court's grant of summary judgment.
